Is Honey Good for Your Hair Growth?

Most of us think of honey as an alternative sweetener contributing to a healthier lifestyle. Who would have thought that spreading this sticky, sweet substance throughout your hair could provide additional benefits? Some of you may be aware that honey has conditioning properties. However, did you know that honey is a great ingredient for boosting hair growth and promoting healthier looking hair? We’re going to explain some of the benefits of using honey for hair growth, along with a couple of recipes so you can give it a try for yourself and determine if it’s for you.

Honey, known for having the quality of softening or soothing the skin, is one of my favorite ingredients to use with hair packs. When I learned that honey also promotes hair growth, I decided to do my own research to know if it really works.

6 Benefits of Honey for Your Hair

  1. Honey has rich antioxidant properties which prevent damage, keeping your scalp and hair healthy.
  2. Honey is an emollient, which means it is capable of softening and soothing. Honey seals moisture in your hair, keeping it conditioned. This reduces breakage, which is often a cause for slower hair growth.
  3. Honey also comprises antibacterial and antiseptic qualities. This helps to prevent scalp infections and soothes issues like dandruff, eczema, and psoriasis, allowing for unhindered hair growth.
  4. Honey strengthens the hair follicles, which helps curb hair fallout.
  5. Honey cleans the hair follicles by getting rid of impurities in the scalp. This minimizes clogging, which is often a reason for hair loss.
  6. Using honey as a hair care ingredient not only boosts hair growth but also stimulates hair re-growth from dormant follicles.

Keeping these points in mind, we’ve put together a short list of a couple recipes for hair masks that will help promote hair growth.
